Day 97 : Japanese Witch Hazel

Chicago Botanical Gardens arranged the 'Three Friends of Winter' Bonsai Exhibition, presenting many leafless bonsai trees. It was interesting to note the tree structure without the leaves. But the star attraction was the Japanese Witch Hazel or Hamamelis japonica. The tree blooms early in Japan and these yellow fragrant flowers look crumpled yet they are delicately beautiful. The temperature was altered for this little tree to bloom early here in Chicago. I have included closeups to get a better sense of this beautiful tree. Here is the picture of the day:
